The ESL has officially announced that the rumours are true and that Brazil will be hosting its first ever Counter-Strike: Global Offensive Major later this year. Set to be held in Rio de Janeiro, the Major will be known as Intel Extreme Masters Rio 2022, and will see 24 teams attending all to fight over a share of a $1 million prize pool.

The major will be held between October 31 and November 13, and will take place at the Jeunesse Arena in the city. The live stage portion of the tournament will be reserved for November 10-13, meaning expect to see fans in the crowd for those dates.

As for the format of the event, a Challengers Stage will take place between October 31 and November 3, which will see a bunch of teams being knocked out before the Legends Stage takes place between November 5-8. This will once again be another round of knockouts before the Champions Stage between November 10-13.
