Plans to hold the Call of Duty League Championship as a physical event have been scrapped due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. The competition, which is set to award participants $4.6 million, is the latest in a line of esports tournaments this year to switch to an online format.

In a tweet, the league said: "In light of continued COVID-19 health risks, the CDL postseason will be held online. The League and teams are collaborating on additional competitive integrity measures to be taken. More updates to follow in delivering the best experience for all".

In a news post, the league also detailed some changes that would be coming in the shift to online. It confirmed that players would be kitted out with a universal camera set up so that the action can be appropriately monitored. Veto server options will also be reportedly increased to five to improve the possibility of getting the best server options for competing teams.
