Dota 2's The International 10 might not be held in Sweden this year

Valve: "We feel confident that in either instance we will have a solution that allows us to hold TI10 in Europe this year".

Despite it being in the works for almost two years now, and expected to be taking place as soon as August 5-15, Dota 2's The International 10 may longer be hosted by Sweden, after the Swedish government "voted not to accept esports into the sports federation", meaning the championship will not earn the same exemptions as other elite sporting events.

This decision has meant that Valve has announced that The International 10 might not be happening in Sweden this year at all, although it does hope that the country will be able to accommodate the premier tournament.

The post that announced this tough decision said, "As a result, and in light of the current political situation in Sweden, we have started looking for possible alternatives elsewhere in Europe to host the event this year, in case the Swedish government is unable to accommodate The International - Dota 2 Championships as planned. We feel confident that in either instance we will have a solution that allows us to hold TI10 in Europe this year, and that we will be able to announce an updated plan in the very near future."

Valve has also revealed that The International qualifiers will be taking place as planned on June 23, and that the tournament will be hosted "in a way that is both safe for all involved, and properly celebrates the players and fans of Dota 2."
